I did my Master’s in Genetics from the University of Karachi (Pakistan), and PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Dalian Medical University (China). My interest in anti-aging and regenerative medicine took me to Shenzhen University for a postdoc, where I have devised a strategy (got patent), for tracing transplanted stem cells. Furthermore, I worked on patients with pre-mature aging syndrome by deriving patient primary cells into induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and correcting the mutations in iPSCs with CRISPR CAS/9. These invitro models led me to understand novel mechanisms and helped me to rescue patient phenotype by drug repurposing. Here at UConn, I will work on generating transgenic sticklebacks to study genes involved in inflammaging that leads to fibrosis.
